Air Ambulance Professionals acquires highest Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems standards accreditation

Transporting patients at a time in their life when they are most in need and may not necessarily know where to turn for the assistance required. When they may not know the difference between one program and another. How do they choose the best for their loved ones? They rely on the folks who do know the differences. The folks who know the quality of care that needs to be delivered. And know when it counts most.

The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) accreditation provides "the highest possible quality to professionals involved with air medical services…giving priority to patient care and safety of the transport environment." Air Ambulance Professionals, now CAMTS recognized, similar to the European Eurami accreditation, has been able to accomplish this highest of accreditations through the support and commitment of all who have utilized our services for the past eighteen years.

What does this mean? . . .

The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems, a non-profit organization of professionals from every aspect of the medical transport industry, is a voluntary evaluation of compliance with accreditation standards. A major focus is safety of the transport environment. Accreditation serves as a marker of excellence for federal, state, and local governmental agencies. Standards are reviewed periodically to reflect the dynamic, challenging transport environment. Since this process directly impacts all users within the transport industry, input comes from all disciplines within that same transport industry. A transport system demonstrates overall quality of service consistent with the essential elements of accreditation standards. The CAMTS Board of Directors consists of representatives from many nationally recognized organization, which include the Aerospace Medical Association, Air Medical Physicians Association, Air and Surface Transport Nurses Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Association of Respiratory Care, American College of Emergency Physicians, Association of Air Medical Services, National Air Transportation Association, National Association of Air Medical Communications Specialists, National Association of State EMS Directors, National EMS Pilots Association, and National Flight Paramedics Association. It is up to these professionals to determine whether the service demonstrates a steady balance in all dynamic components which comprise their specific program.

Extensive and in-depth questions are proved, or answered, by providing policies, statistics, and practices from the programs documents and manuals. The two-day site survey is to undergo a rigorous review of personnel, policies, procedures, protocols, and files and a site visit of base operations including day to day operations, equipment, supplies, and aircraft. All disciplines are involved, medical, aviation, communication, business and maintenance, with the process. Criteria measures the quality level of the medical transport service, assuring safety, education, maintenance, community outreach, wellness programs and quality improvement, to name just a few.

Air Ambulance Professionals medical flight crews meet rigorous requirements to ensure the highest quality patient care is delivered during all phases of every transport. At Air Ambulance Professionals, nurses are seasoned critical care and emergency care nurses, used to maintaining patients in highest of acuity settings. Our paramedics are seasoned '911', usually high volume EMS system paramedics, used to dealing with 'scene' calls with multiple challenges all occurring at the same time. Respiratory therapist are experienced with years of respiratory issues and patients, including those cared for in other, non-traditional settings, such as extended facilities or at homes with limited resources. When the acuity calls for it, the Air Ambulance Professionals physicians are all critical care and/or emergency room trained with years of experience as well. This melding of the best fit to meet patient needs is one way Air Ambulance Professionals not only meets, but exceeds, expectations.

Nationally, only about one third of transport programs are CAMTS accredited. In Florida, Air Ambulance Professionals is one of two fixed-wing programs to receive this prestigious award.

Providing care when the bottom line is the care you deliver, patients can have peace of mind knowing Air Ambulance Professionals dedicated, well-trained crew has committed to utilizing the highest standards of safety and practice.
